PP strapping is manufactured from polypropylene. Lightweight and eco-friendly, it is compatible with fully automatic, semi-automatic and manual strapping machines, ideal for securing cartons and light pallet loads ranging from several kilograms up to hundreds of kilograms.

There is a wide range of PP strapping options with different widths, thicknesses and tensile strengths, leaving many customers confused when selecting models. We have compiled this straightforward selection guide based on machine type, product weight and transportation conditions to help you avoid costly purchasing mistakes!

I. Summary of Selection Rules

✅ The thicker and wider the strap, the higher its tensile strength and load capacity.

✅ PP strapping is suitable for light and medium-weight goods; PET strapping is recommended for heavy-duty pallet loads.

✅ Machine compatibility: Thin straps are mostly used on fully automatic machines; thicker straps fit semi-automatic machines and manual strapping tools.

III. Dimension-based Selection Key Points

1. Selection by Thickness

0.50~0.60mm

Advantages: Material-saving, cost-effective and excellent flexibility.

Application: Fully automatic strapping machines, for individual goods under 120kg; widely used in e-commerce, courier and food carton packaging.

⚠️ Not suitable for manual tensioners, prone to breakage.

0.70~0.80mm

Mainstream universal specification, balancing flexibility and tensile strength; works for both fully automatic and semi-automatic equipment.

Application: Fruit packaging, electrical appliances, hardware goods and standard logistics cartons.

0.90mm

Heavy-gauge PP strapping with enhanced resistance to stretching. Suitable for semi-automatic machines and manual strapping, for light pallets with single loads between 250kg and 400kg.

Custom thickness range: 0.45–1.1mm available upon request.

2. Selection by Width

9mm (narrow strap): Most widely used, compatible with standard cartons and strapping machines, delivering smooth strap feeding.

16mm: Larger contact surface to prevent carton crushing; suitable for color boxes, printed materials and easily damaged packages.

19mm (wide strap): Larger bearing area to disperse pressure; priority choice for soft cartons vulnerable to indentation.

Custom sizes: Straps can be manufactured in widths of 5–19mm and thicknesses of 0.45–1.1mm as required.

3. Selection by Tensile Strength (Reference for Cargo Weight)

Industry standard rule: The tensile strength of strapping shall be 1.5 ~ 2 times the weight of goods to ensure sufficient safety margin.

Single load ≤50kg: Straps with tensile strength of 60~130kg (0.5/0.6mm thin gauge)

Single load 50–150kg: Straps with tensile strength of 170~235kg (0.6~0.8mm gauge)

Single load 150–350kg: Heavy-gauge straps with tensile strength of 260~420kg (0.7~0.9mm gauge)

⚠️ Important Reminder:

If the total pallet weight exceeds 450kg, or goods require outdoor storage and long-distance transportation, PP strapping is not recommended. PET strapping is the better alternative. PP material has high plasticity and tends to loosen under prolonged tension.

IV. Quick Selection by Industry

Courier, E-commerce & Printing Industry — Recommended: PP090060 / PP120060 (0.6mm thin strap for fully automatic machines)

Fruit & Agricultural Product Packaging — Recommended: PP120080, high toughness to avoid damaging turnover crates

Home Appliance, Hardware & Lock Industry — Recommended: PP150070 / PP190060

Carton Factories & Light Pallet Loading — For heavier goods, choose PP190090 (high tensile strength grade)

V. Additional Selection Notes

Prioritize Machine Compatibility

Fully automatic machines are recommended to use straps ≤0.65mm; overly thick straps may cause jamming. Manual strapping tools prefer straps of 0.7mm thickness or above.

Custom Colors & Printing

Red, yellow, blue, green, white, grey and other colors are available. Custom LOGO printing can be arranged for brand identification and product traceability.

Environmental Impact

PP material ages rapidly under prolonged direct sunlight. For long-term outdoor storage, protective outer packaging or PET strapping is suggested.
